Radiography

We use x-ray to look at dense objects like bone but also to view soft tissue like the abdomen , heart and lungs.

We have modern digital x-ray equipment which enables us to diagnose problems rapidly and accurately. Images are then able to be easily stored for future reference or are able to be emailed to specialists if required or can be given to clients as a digital file if necessary.

If your pet needs an x-ray they will need to be admitted to the hospital for the day and have the images taken.

The veterinarian will then contact you to discuss the findings and formulate a treatment plan.

Ultrasound

Is a painless procedure that uses sound waves to make images of organs with in your pets body. The waves react differently to different structures and can therefore give us an image on a screen that we can interpret. It is a specialised skill which takes time and further training to develop.

Mostly we use ultrasound to look at organs like the liver, kidneys, or even the bladder or the heart.

Pregnancy diagnosis is other way the we use this equipment. We can scan bitches and queens from 4 weeks.

Depending on the procedure, we can ultrasound in the consult room but often we will require your pet to be admitted for the day.

Microchipping

Microchipping is a permanent form of identification for your pets. It is law in WA to microchip all cats and dogs.

The microchip that we use is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted under the skin in between the shoulder blades. It is a quick procedure and not particularly uncomfortable for your pets.

The Microchip contains a number which is unique to your pet. This number can be easily read with a scanner that all vets and most City Rangers now have. This number is stored in a central data base so lost pets can be reunited with their owners quickly and easily.

Microchips have been instrumental in helping us return many lost dogs to their loving homes.

Clinical Pathology

Albany Veterinary Hospital boasts the most advanced laboratory equipment in the Great Southern.

We do tests on blood, urine, skin, ears and can have the results before your pet is ready to go home. For emergency or extremely ill patients rapid results can make all the difference.

For more specialist testing we have the option of sending samples to Perth or to a Specialist Clinical Pathologist.

Once we have the results one of the veterinarians will contact your to discuss their findings and treatment plan.

Clinic Run

On the first Wednesday of each month we travel to outlying areas to assist in the veterinary care of your pets and farm livestock.

We start in Gnowangerup then travel to Ongerup, Jerramungup and Borden, before returning home. We are able to perform consultations, vaccinations, microchipping on these visits as well as having a select range of veterinary merchandise available for sale.
